At J & J Spirits SRL, integrity and ethical practices are at the heart of our operations. Our commitment to combating modern slavery and human trafficking is unwavering, and we continually strive to ensure that our business and supply chain are free from such practices.

Our Business Structure

J & J Spirits SRL is a prominent entity in the spirits industry, employing over 9,000 people globally and operating production facilities in multiple countries. We produce and market a variety of internationally recognized beverages, including rum, mamajuana, and tropically infused rum beverages. Our operations span across the United States, China, the Dominican Republic and Jamaica.

Our Operations and Supply Chain

J & J Spirits SRL operates a bottling, distilling, blending, and aging facility in the Dominican Republic. Our supply chain includes sourcing high-quality ingredients and raw materials from various locations, including those with complex workplace standards and governance challenges.

Supply Chain Overview

  • Production: We produce on-site  where we produce a wide range of spirits and other beverages.
  • Sourcing: We source raw materials locally, ensuring compliance with high standards for human rights, labor conditions, and environmental sustainability.

The Risks of Modern Slavery Practices in Our Supply Chain

We recognize the inherent risks of modern slavery in global supply chains, particularly in the sourcing of raw materials like sugarcane. We have implemented various measures to mitigate these risks.

Identified Risks

  • Business/Transaction Risk: Susceptibility to slavery and human trafficking in international operations and the use of external suppliers.

  • Product Risk: Risks associated with sourcing raw materials from specific locations.

  • Sector/Industry Risk: Vulnerability in sectors like hospitality and agriculture.

  • Country Risk: Operating in countries with higher risks of modern slavery.

Our Policies and Codes

J & J Spirits SRL has implemented several policies and codes to prevent modern slavery, including:

  • Third-Party Code of Conduct: Requires our business partners to adhere to high standards for working conditions and compliance with applicable laws.

  • Procurement Policy: Ensures impartial and objective selection of suppliers based on reputation, integrity, and performance.

  • Responsible Sourcing Standards: Based on the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code and other international standards, these standards outline our expectations for labor conditions, human rights, health and safety, environmental protection, and business integrity.

Additional Policies

  • Employee Code of Conduct: Guides employees on maintaining professional and ethical behavior.

  • “Speak Up” Code: Encourages employees and partners to report unethical behavior confidentially.

  • Employee Assistance Program: Provides support for employees and their families on work or personal issues.

Due Diligence

Our due diligence processes involve regular screening and audits of our business partners to ensure compliance with our standards. We use automated risk analysis and third-party audits to identify and mitigate potential risks in our supply chain.

Supplier Audits

  • Vendor Qualification Process: We evaluate suppliers’ compliance with laws and codes.

Training Our People

We conduct regular training for employees on our policies and compliance requirements. Training is mandatory and includes an annual certification process to ensure ongoing adherence to our Code of Conduct.

Assessing the Effectiveness of Our Actions

We use key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of our efforts to prevent modern slavery. These include:

  • Reports and Investigations: Managed by our Business Integrity team, which analyzes trends and conducts additional audits if necessary.

  • Supplier Compliance: Tracking of SMETA audit non-conformities and improvement plans.

Steps to Be Taken in FY24

To further our commitment to combating modern slavery, we plan to:

  • Review Supplier Contracts: Ensure all contracts include modern slavery compliance requirements.

  • Modern Slavery Training: Partner with third parties to provide bespoke training for employees.

  • Update Third-Party Code of Conduct: Include more detailed sections on human rights and fair working conditions.

By implementing these steps, J & J Spirits SRL aims to enhance our efforts in preventing modern slavery and ensuring ethical practices throughout our operations and supply chain.
